November Lunchtime Talk

Dawn Sinclair, Senior Archivist at HarperCollins publishers delighted us with a Lunchtime Talk on 19 November when she explored the history of this famous company who celebrated their 200th Anniversary in 2018.

We heard tales of the founding Collins family, their ethos of support for employees and tales of relationships built over many decades with famous authors.  We also had the chance to see a number of archive items including some first edition novels and a Christmas card sent to employees serving at the front during World War 1.

NHS Oral History Project – NHS at 70

The 3Ls and Centre for Lifelong Learning are currently exploring volunteering opportunities for 3Ls Members and more information will be publicised soon about how you can get involved.

This month, we have been asked to invite 3Ls Members to take part in an NHS Oral History Project – either to be trained to conduct interviews or to take part as an interviewee.  Training Sessions for interviewees will commence on 30th November, 2018 so do contact Claire McDade, Oral History and Public Engagement Officer – NHS at 70 if you are keen to take part.

Here is some further information from the NHS at 70 Project: –

NHS at 70 is a national programme of work supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and led by the University of Manchester.

We are collecting stories and memorabilia from people who worked and were cared for by the NHS since its creation in 1948. Marking the anniversary in 2018, NHS at 70 will be collecting stories until 2020.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to collect stories about the NHS from members of the public in and around Glasgow. Full oral history training will be provided. The Scottish Oral History Centre at the University of Strathclyde is an affiliated Scottish partner in the NHS at 70 oral history project and will provide support and host the training.

Everybody has a story to tell about the NHS and its unique place in everyday post-war British life. Patient or volunteer? Porter or district nurse? Dentist or surgeon? Cleaner or radiographer? Ambulance driver or receptionist? Whatever your NHS story is we would love to hear it.

All the stories and memorabilia we collect will form part of the first Digital Archive<> for NHS history. Help us make that history – Contact us<> by getting in touch and sharing your story!

For more information or if you have questions contact Claire McDade. email:
