Please find below some updates on recent decisions about 3Ls matters, made by the 3Ls Management Council in the absence of our usual AGM.
3Ls Membership 2020/21
As you know, 3Ls activities in University premises have been suspended and we do not yet know when we might be able to return to the Centre for Lifelong Learning. As it seems unlikely that we will to be able to return fully to our normal programme of activities by the end of the current calendar year, the Management Council has decided that current 3Ls memberships will remain valid until 31st August 2021. No new member applications will be accepted until June 2021. Such a decision would normally be put to an AGM but since that has been postponed, the Management Council has agreed to this and other proposals for managing Association business during the lockdown.
President’s Charity: Alzheimer Scotland
In normal circumstances, we would have finished fund-raising efforts in support of the President’s Charity and would have been handing over a cheque to Alzheimer Scotland at our AGM. As at the date of suspending 3Ls business, we had not finalised collection of funds but anticipate receipt of further donations before the end of the year. In the meantime, the Management Council has agreed that we should send a cheque for £3,000 to Alzheimer Scotland ahead of presentation of the final balance payment when we are able to hold our AGM. A huge thank you is due to everyone who has supported lots of activities in support of the President’s Charity this year.
CLL Classes and 3Ls Clubs
Following on from the successful April pilot of online classes, Alix McDonald, Head of Centre, Centre for Lifelong Learning, has advised that the CLL team is developing online ‘live’ classes via Zoom for the rest of this calendar year. The Summer Programme Online will launch in early June, commencing early July. There will be minimal face to face teaching in CLL until January 2021 and only when it is practicable to do so in accordance with new health and safety measures. In line with that decision, Clubs have been advised that they should assume that their meetings should not resume in the Graham Hills Building until January 2021 at the earliest and they should adjust Club programme plans accordingly. Those of you who are Club members should hear more directly from Club Committees in due course.
