We are a club which is open to anyone who enjoys listening to music. The music can be of any genre – over the years we have encompassed classical; musicals; folk; jazz; choral; opera and at one point African dance music. We meet on the last Friday of the month from 12 till 2 starting from October till April. We usually have speakers for several of the meetings and we choose a theme for the other meetings and ask members if they would like to suggest a piece of music on that theme. There is always plenty of time for a chat in addition to listening to music. We also try to include an outing to something music -related, for example the Royal Conservatoire or ancient musical instruments belonging to Kelvingrove Art Galleries. To finish our meetings we all go out somewhere for lunch together in April.
At present we are holding our meetings on Zoom on the last Friday of the month at 12 noon. The format for these is that members think of a couple of pieces of music they would like everyone to hear and we play these on You Tube whilst we are all on Zoom. The music selections are interspersed with a chat to find out how everyone is getting on in these difficult times. So far this has worked well and this will be the format until April. Our next meeting will be on Friday 29th January with a Burns theme and we would be pleased to welcome anyone who wishes to join us. Send an email to me, Janice Mccotter, President, and I will include you on our Zoom invitation list for the January meeting.
